Nicholas James Stachler Memorial Skate

Sergeant Nicholas James Stachler, born April 6, 1983 in Athens, was the son of Pamela McCoy Stachler and the late James Stachler.  Besides his mother, Nick is survived by his sister Heather Anerino, brother Logan Hoon, his niece Lucia and nephew Carter Anerino.

Nick graduated from Athens High School in 2002 and was an Athens Youth Hockey Association player all the way through high school.  After high school Nick served 3 tours in Operation Iraqi Freedom with the US Army Alpha Company, 325th Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division out of Fort Bragg, NC.  Nick passed away March 18, 2014.

In honor of Nick we hosted the second annual Nicholas James Stachler Memorial Skate on March 28, 2015.  The event is to honor Nick and to raise funds for a scholarship in his name for an AYHA player or players.  In 2 years we've raised over $6,000 that will go toward player fees in the AYHA.

Ohio Hockey Fights Back

The Ohio University DI Hockey team has been teaming up with the American Cancer Society for the past 4 years and raising money through charity games for cancer research.

The event started when the late Becky Fuhs, who had 2 sons play for Ohio Hockey, was diagnosed with cancer.  Jim Fuhs had already graduated but Jared Fuhs was a senior at the that time.  Dan Morris, the coach at that time, invited Ohio Hockey Alumni to create a team and come play a weekend series against the current Bobcats and the ticket sales would go to charity.

Over the first 3 years we were able to raise over $10,000 and this year alone the games doubled that and raised over $10,000.  Within this event my main responsibilities were to be a point of contact for Jim Fuhs and other to get information, pre-weekend preparation and in the past a participant.

*Pictured to the right are members of the 2013 American Cancer Society Ice Ghost team.  From left: Dennis Belkin, Mark Tracy, Philip Oberlin and Steve Osacky.  This event not only is for a great cause but allows teammates to reunite at one of the greatest places to play hockey Bird Arena.  The Ice Ghosts team is made up of players spanning from 2004-2013.  Not all of the members played at Ohio at the same time but they're all a part of the Ohio Bobcat Hockey family.

Inclusive Recreation Event at Bird Arena

Ohio University's Department of Recreation Management, Bird Arena and the Expanding YOUR Horizons organizaton collaborated to create an inclusive event for individuals with mental and physical disabilities.  The event was designed to give the Expanding YOUR Horizons participants a new and different experience within the recreation field.

My main responsilities for this event were to be the facility point of contact for the event coordinator, event set up and break down, work directly with the event coordinator for the day of operations and acquire special guests for the event.

The event was a great exerience for all involved.  We were able to include everyone in all activities on and off the ice.  The Ohio DII Hockey players demonstrated some drills and also helped EYH members with shooting passing and skating.  The Ohio Synchronized Skating team also was able to demonstate some of their routine as well.
