OHIO UNIVERSITY DIVISION II ACHA HOCKEY



 

Ohio University’s Division II Men’s Hockey team was established in 2009 by then current Ohio University students Jordan Frasse and Sean Roach.  With assistance from Ohio University's Division I Men's Hockey Head Coach Dan Morris, the team was accepted the following year into the American Collegiate Hockey Association and played an independent schedule in its first year consisting of 23 games and posting a 13-8-2 record.  Leading the team behind the bench was Head Coach Matt Staehely and Assistant Coach Beau Nishimura getting the programs first ever win on October 2, 2010 against Wright State University winning 6-0.  In 2011-12 the Head Coach became Philip Oberlin and the team joined the Tri-State Collegiate Hockey League, which allowed the bobcats to compete against league opponents, University of Dayton, Wright State University, University of Toledo, University of Cincinnati, University of Akron, University of Pittsburgh, Indiana University of Pennsylvania and West Virginia University.  Since the teams inception in 2010 the bobcats have posted a record of 89 wins, 50 losses and 6 ties.  In the 4 years of being a member of the TSCHL the bobcats have made playoffs all 4 years and made 2 trips to the championship game.  This past season 2014-15 the bobcats were ranked as high as 4th in the Southeast Region and finished the season ranked 7th giving the team its first trip to the Southeast Regional tournament.
