Learn To Play Hockey

PROGRAM: The Learn To Play Hockey program is offered twice a year.  The first session beginning in October and the second beginning in January.  Each session is 8 weeks longs and the participants can choose to sign up for 1 on-ice lesson a week (8 total lessons) or 2 on-ice lessons a week (16 total lessons).

TRY HOCKEY FOR FREE: A week before each session we offer a "Try Hockey for FREE" event.  This event allows potential participants to come to Bird Arena, get fitted with hockey gear and skate with the Ohio University DI and Ohio University DII hockey teams and some of the Ohio University Synchronized Skating team.

JAMBOREES: During the 8 week session we offer 2 jamborees, which are days when the participants can come and just play mini games of hockey rather then the normal drills.  These are during the weekends throughout the session.

COST: The cost of the LTPH 8 week program is $59 a person for 1 on-ice lesson a week and $118 a person for 2 on-ice sessions a week.  We do offer a 10% sibling discount.

AGE/EXPERIENCE: The LTPH program is offered for both girls and boys ages 4-12 years old.  There is no experience necessary and all equipment is provided.

*Pictured at the right is a team photo after one of the Jamborees in 2012.  You will notice in the back ground that we have the divider pads out in order to break the ice down and allow the participants to play mini games of hockey.  We also have a great participant to coach ratio 4-1.  These variables make the possibility of development in each of our participant much greater.

*Above is a video that goes more in depth on some of the values associated with USA Hockey and the ADM.

USA HOCKEY - AMERICAN DEVELOPMENT MODEL

The LTPH program uses the American Development Model (ADM) for all of it's on-ice practices.  The core values of the LTPH program are to create an environment for kids to have fun, learn new skills, develop physically and socially, challenge themselves and grow a passion for the game of ice hockey.  These values all occur within the ADM.  By dividing the ice into sections and creating smaller groups, games and drills the participants are able to get more touches on the puck and more repetitions through the drills.  There is less standing aroudn waiting and more activity going on during the ice time.  Since the LTPH program is 4-12 year olds I take the ADM practice plans and adapt them for what my group needs.  We also adapt the drills during the ice sessions in order to challenge older groups or allow for the younger groups to succeed.
