Ohio University Division II Hockey - Budget 2014-15
Since the Division II Hockey team is not a varsity program and is actually an Ohio University student organization it realies on player fees for basically all of it's funding. The player fees can increase or decrease each year depending on the teams travel schedule, amount of home games, practice times and other variables. Each year is fairly similar and is normally around $45,000. To be safe the budget is alway projected higher than what the cost may actually be to ensure that the team is able to pay any unexpected expenses during the year.
Other ways that team raises money is through ticket sales at the games and donations to the non-profit organization that helps support both the Division I and Division II Hockey teams. The tickets are sold at each game costing Adults $5, Students $1 and Children under 12 years old are Free. Donations are made to the Blueline Booster Club which supports the team not only by allowing people to donate but also supplies snack bags for the players on roadtrips and purchases the team awards at the end of the year banquet. Since ticket sales and donations are such an inconsistant variable the team doesn't consider them into the yearly budget.

*TRAVEL EXPENSE
Pictured to the left is the breakdown of each roadtrip that the division II hockey team took in 2014-15 with the exception of the Maryland trip which was cancelled.
Since we don't have a budget large enough to take charter buses we rent mini buses from Outdoor Pursuits and vans from the Ohio University Motor Pool. Not knowing exactly what vehicles will be available until later in the Fall and Winter I calculate the cost for each senario. Adding in cost of mileage for each vehicle and daily rental fees if needed. Based on the calculations I make an educated guess for the travel expenses.

*PLAYER FEES
Pictured to the right is the breakdown of player fees for 2014-15. This is the standard fee for players and first year players pay a one time extra fee of $400 to cover the cost of their team equipment that they use throughout their careers at Ohio University. The goalie cost is less because they play far less games then a normal player. These fees cover all of the team expenses for the year, which is broken down in the following picture.

*TOTAL BUDGET
Pictured to the left is the complete budget for 2014-15. Items like Lifting, Head Coach, Cage, League Fee, etc. are all set expenses. Other items such as Officials and Athletic Trainers are calculated on a per game senario. Ice time is calculated in the following:
16 home games x 2.5 hours = 40 hours, 40 hours x $70 = $2,800
Practice time = 5 hours a week x 24 weeks = 120 hours x $50 = $6,000
*I know the budget and player fees don't balance but I over estimate and round up on all expenses, so if it's within $1,000 I know that we'll be fine for the season.

*OTHER REVENUE OPPORTUNITIES
This past spring the team was able to partner with a recreation management class group to host the 1st Annual Mom's Weekend Chocolate Fest. The event was extremely successful, raising over $1,300 for the Blueline Boosters Club, which is the non-profit organization that supports the hockey team.
The team was also able to partner with a company that buys and sells text books and earned $800 this spring. The independent company needs to be supported by a student organization in order to have a table on campus.

*BLUELINE BOOSTERS CLUB
Pictured to the right is the receipt of donation that our Non-Profit gives to any individual, company or organization that contributes funding toward the division I or division II hockey programs. The organization is run by 4 board members and has upwards of 100 memberships that are made up of Ohio hockey fans, family of the players and alumni.

*COLLECTION OF PLAYER FEES
Pictured to the left is a receipt form from a players fee deposit. The team account is run through a personal bank account under my name. Since it's under my name I take careful precautions to make sure that everything is recorded and filed properly. As pictured a copy of the deposit slip, the date and a description of the transaction is recorded and filed. This is done with all expenditures and deposits of any kind for the team. Any checks that are written to myself are marked in the memo line as "Ohio D2 Hockey Payment".
